My Chocolate Love Story///
I’ll do my best to break it down (because I naturally take FOREVER to tell a story)
23 years ago this journey began. In New York City. Met a gal, a super talented French trained chef kinda gal, she made the goods, I ran the show. And by show I mean gathering ingredients, delivering chocolates, printing labels, signing rent agreements, hiring employees, running the numbers, marketing, staying up until midnight with 2 toddlers to cuddle because I was working in the shop all day. We went from having a little farm-stand confection business to being on The Martha Stewart Show, interviewed by Entrepreneur, Food & Wine, Saveur, New York Times, etc. It was a whirlwind. It was amazing! AND it was hard. Both of our hubs were doing medical internships and we both had infants/toddlers. We desperately wanted to make this happen…we lived in New York on very limited incomes and wanted to not only contribute and work, but create joy. We sailed that ship for 6 years in a little shop in Port Jefferson, a sleepy little ferry stop town on Long Island. We made exquisite confections. FRESH CHOCOLATE. We were in the press for a few years at least every month and the names of our clientele remains under wraps to this day. For this country girl, born in Seattle, raised in Buckley, WA, I had no idea who these powerhouse peeps who couldn’t get enough of our goodies were at the time. I do now and am so proud.
That story ended in 2011. We moved back to Washington and I ran the business for a few years on my own. My sweet business partner was unable to continue, but I had learned our recipes under her watchful eye and she approved.
Life happened along the way, as it does. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and spent a year in treatment and recovery. My business partner was diagnosed in 2018 and lost her battle. It was then that I began to consider honoring her by continuing our journey.
Fast forward to 2020. A global pandemic hits. Those 2 toddlers are now in college. Perfect time to re-launch because people need love and want chocolate! Coco Sherrie was born.
So here we are in 2024. Those college kids are now 1) married and living in L.A. and 2) engaged, living in San Diego and helps run marketing here at Coco, the pandemic is over and I still LOVE what I do…making what I believe is the some of very best dark chocolate in the world. How is that!? It’s the love that’s poured in, the years of experience, the finest ingredients from around the world and it all just works. Hope you love it as much as I love making it.
Cheers
